Mineral water bath

Constructed back in the 1930s…

Much like the native Wappo Indians, guests considered the hot mineral therapy pool to have spiritual, healing and rejuvenating properties. Guests would sooth what ailed them by enjoying private baths in custom-made bathing stalls that included a bathtub. A pipe that extended from the capped well to the pool helped to regulate water temperatures.

The walls of the pool are made up of lava rocks indigenous to this area. Lava rocks are a sign of strength and courage, and are said to carry the nurturing properties of Mother Earth. It is thought that these rocks contain the same powerful energy like that of the volcano that created them. Lava rocks are believed to be an excellent aid to healing, especially for those suffering from depression or a lack of energy and vitality.

Lava Rock: Rhyolite examples

Lava rocks are a main feature in and around the Old Faithful Geyser property. Lava rocks are considered igneous, which means that the rocks are crystalline solids fromed directly from cooling magma. There are three main types of volcanic igneous rocks including rhyolite, andesite and basalt. It is not uncommon to see variations in color or granularity from rock to rock.
